For years, Doug served as a trusted client advisor with Hillard Heintze which, until its acquisition by an engineering company in 2019, was one of the leading and fastest-growing privately owned security, threat and violence risk management firms in the United States. In this capacity, he supported family offices and affluent individuals as a virtual family Chief Security Officer (FCSO).
Before joining the private sector, Doug spent 16 years at the U.S. Secret Service as a physical and technical security specialist. In this role, he worked as a Technical Security Lead Coordinator for Presidential, Vice-Presidential Protective advances and National Special Security Events, identifying and implementing countermeasures for threats, hazards and vulnerabilities associated with technical countermeasures, explosives, weapons of mass destruction, fire and life safety, hazardous materials, and structural integrity. Additionally, Doug served as Team Leader and Team Medic assigned to a U.S. Secret Service Special Program. His field physical security responsibilities included technical investigations, repair and maintenance of intrusion detection, access control, and video management systems.
Doug spent almost a decade as a sergeant and police officer with U.S. Park Police, Special Forces Branch. He was an Aviation Section Paramedic Rescue Technician (NREMT-P), a rappel master, tactical EMT, swift water rescue technician, and hoist-and-FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) operator. He was also a certified instructor in Field Training (FTI), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), while also teaching Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT).
Doug began his career as a Petty Officer Second Class, U.S. Coast Guard. As an Aviation Electronics Technician, he was cross-trained as a Flight Mechanic and certified Search & Rescue (SAR) Air Crewman on the HH65-A Helicopter, executing search-and-rescue operations, law enforcement patrols and marine safety flights and both maintaining and repairing helicopter avionics, power plants, hydraulics and electrical systems.
